Over the years, we’ve seen firsthand how important local leadership is to the success of small businesses, families, and the overall culture of our city. Recently, comments were made publicly by Rod Vilhauer questioning whether a business with a small employee count could even be considered a “real” small business. After months of meaningful conversations, thoughtful consideration, and prayer, Melinda and I have decided to support and vote for Mark Hill for Mayor of Frisco. This was not an easy decision, as we count other candidates in this race as friends and respected leaders.
We based our decision on two factors. First, our understanding of Frisco’s history and the role of Mayor. Second (and most importantly) the skills, experience, and expertise required to lead at this moment in our city’s growth.
Over the last 24 years, Frisco has experienced remarkable growth under just three Mayors. Each brought a different style and helped build upon the success of those before them. Because the Mayor’s formal vote is limited to breaking ties, the real job is leadership: uniting independently elected council members and guiding them toward the good of the whole community. As grateful as we are for the service of past Mayors, Frisco is ready for a fresh perspective.
This is the right moment to pivot from leadership shaped primarily by long tenure on City Council to leadership grounded in broader executive experience and independent perspective. Mark Hill is the only candidate who pairs executive-level leadership with elected experience and a fresh perspective. Unbound by decades in the same system, he is uniquely positioned to help lead Frisco into its next phase of growth.
I’ve worked firsthand with Mark and have seen his leadership up close. He is the same person behind closed doors as he is on stage. He welcomes healthy debate, ensures all voices are heard, and asks thoughtful, insightful questions; one of the clearest signs of strong critical thinking. Mark has served Frisco for decades, including as an EDC Director, FISD Trustee, and FISD Board President.
For perspective, the FISD Board oversees a $1.2 billion budget, roughly four times the size of the City of Frisco’s budget, and far larger in both scope and personnel. Mark has excelled at leading with that level of responsibility, including helping balance the district’s budget for the first time in recent memory.
Finally, what truly draws us to Mark’s candidacy is his campaign’s central theme: Uniting Frisco. While disagreement is inevitable in a city of our size, we can (and should) expect respectful debate, civility, and leadership that brings people together rather than pushing them into factions. Frisco can do better, and Mark Hill offers a clear path forward.
